“Kids Against Hunger” of St. Peters gathered volunteers from Lindenwood last Friday and Saturday to pack meals for kids in Haiti.
This event is organized by the Kids Against Hunger of St. Peters, partnering with the Haitian organization. The event took place in Evans Commons gym.
The group’s objective is to provide resources and strategies to fight against hunger and poverty for the kids in Haiti. Each meal costs 3 cents.
Many volunteers from Lindenwood came to pack the meals, including those with the International Student Fellowship.
“We packed 1,296 meals and it was fun,” Richard Heter, a volunteer with the group, said.
Heter also said he was glad that he was able to make a difference in people’s lives.
He said he had encouraged students from International Student Fellowship to help pack meals during the event.
“It was fun, and it feels nice to give,” Pedro Roca, a student from Venezuela, said. “You don’t have to spend a lot of money to give others but you can offer your time and enthusiasm.”
It was Roca’s fourth time packing meals for Kids Against Hunger, and he said he is looking forward to volunteering for this event again the next time they come to Lindenwood.
A total of 250,000 meals were packed during the event and shipped soon after.
