This weekend kicks off conference play for the Lindenwood men’s rugby team as they face Arkansas State University.
The Lions look to make it 3 straight wins against Arkansas State after beating them twice last season by a score of 24-5 on Feb. 10 and 36-32 on Mar 3.
Head Coach Josh Macy said this is a tough opponent for the Lions.
“They are always physical and athletic, so it’ll be a great match,” he said.
Macy said he expects this match will be played with a lot of intensity at a high level.
“They are also ranked in the top 10 in the country so we are really excited to get in a quality match,” he said.
The Lions have prepared themselves mentally and physically for this match throughout the week, Macy said.
“The guys have put up with a lot in the build up to the match.” he said. “Cold windy days outside. Grueling nights in the weight room and wrestling room. They get to just relax and play rugby now.”
With this match being away, Macy believes the conditions of field will play a factor in the match.
“The field there seems to be perpetually muddy so we are going to need to manage territory and play simple and effective. Sophomores Richard Felton and Andreas Livadaras will be vital in those efforts,” he said.
The Lions face Arkansas State Saturday at 11 a.m in Jonesboro.
