The men’s rugby team faces Life University for the second time this season.
The Lions lost to Life 22-11 earlier this season on Feb. 23 at Life’s home field in Augusta, Georgia. This is not the first time the two teams will match up multiple times in the same season. Last season, the Lions faced Life three times. Life won the first two matches against LU by the score of 22-18 on Feb. 17, 2018, and 31-12 on March 24, 2018.
Men’s rugby team captain Wesley White said he is very familiar with Life, and the key to the game Saturday will be how each team performs on the defensive end.
“It’s going to come down to what team can push the other on attacking defenses,”he said. “We know the physicality they bring and know what type of physicality we have to bring ourselves especially on defense”
Wesley said the Lions need to play as a team or they will not be
victorious.
“We need to maintain our structure at all times, and make sure we do the basics right,” he said.
He said they must keep their composure despite the importance of the match. Not only does the contest feature the top two teams in the country, it is an annual memorial game in honor of Glenn Markway, a Lindenwood rugby player who died of cancer.
White says he expects a big crowd at the match Saturday. The Lions face Life University at 7pm on Saturday at Hunter Stadium.
