Women’s Golf
Women’s golf won the University of Southern Indiana Invitational by 10 strokes to open its season.
The Lions had three golfers finish in the top five of the event. Senior Josefina Haupt finished first with a score of +2, senior McKenna Montgomery finished third with a score of +5 and freshman Noelia Rodriguez Chicote finished fourth with a score of +6. The team finished +23 overall.
The Lions will compete on Sep. 21 at Washington University in St. Louis.
Field Hockey
Field Hockey won its first two home games of the season over Frostburg State University and Limestone College.
Goals from senior Bridget Hoogendijk, sophomores Taylor Sullivan and Annick Giebels led the Lions to a 3-1 victory over Frostburg State on Friday.
Seniors Lauren Roberts and Megan Martin scored the first two goals Sunday against Limestone. Sophomore Pauline Terwindt scored the tiebreaking goal in double overtime to secure the win for the Lions.
The Lions will take on Mansfield University on Saturday, Sep. 28.
Women’s Volleyball
Women’s Volleyball went 2-1 in the Lindenwood Invitational Friday and Saturday.
The Lions will host the Lindenwood Challenge this weekend, featuring games against Flagler on Friday, Sep. 20 and McKendree and Maryville Saturday, Sep. 21.
Football
Lions’ football dropped its first home game of the season against No. 16 Midwestern State University Texas on Saturday with a final score of 28-17.
Next, the Lions will have its first GLVC game against William Jewell College Saturday, Sep. 21 at Harlen C. Hunter Stadium.
Women’s Soccer
Women’s soccer dropped its first GLVC game of the season to the University of Missouri St. Louis on Sunday.
UMSL scored the only goal for either side in the seventh minute of the game. The Lions fired off 10 shots in the second half but were unable to get on the scoreboard.
The Lions will travel to take on the University of Illinois Springfield on Friday, Sep. 20.
Men’s Soccer
Men’s soccer also took on the University of Missouri St. Louis and came out on top 3-2.
This was the Lions’ first conference win of the season and came by way of a hat trick from sophomore Luke McBeth. His third goal came in the 89th minute of the game, which broke the 2-2 tie.
The Lions will travel to take on the University of Illinois Springfield on Friday, Sep. 20.
