Lindenwood’s D-II men’s hockey team had a clean sweep of the Lindenwood Winter Classic, winning all three games that they played over the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend.
The Lions kicked off their weekend at the Centene Community Ice Center playing the Concordia University Falcons. The Lions took care of the Falcons by a score of 12-1. Defenseman Brett Robinson had five points of his own in the game and assisted four more goals. Forward Zac Maupin joined in on the blowout, scoring four goals himself. Additionally in the game, forward Austin Meers, defenseman Chase McClellan, and forward Anthony Tinsley each found the net in the first game of the weekend.
In the second game of the weekend, the Lions shut out the Marian University Sabres by a score of 7-0. The Lions saw scores from seven different players in the effort, including Tinsley, Meers, Robinson, forwards Sam Watson, Stanley Lucas, Michael Mullen, and Gage Vierzba. The team scored two in the first period, one in the second period, and four in the third.
In the final game of the weekend, Lindenwood beat the Trine University Storm by a score of 5-1. Forward Sean McMahon scored the first goal of the game in the first period, with an assist from Watson. Defenseman Jacob Behnen scored shortly after, to give the Lions an early pair of goals. In the second, forward Logan Millhausen scored a point early in the going in the second period to further the Lion’s lead. Defenseman Ryan Granville scored the penultimate goal of the game shortly after, followed by the final goal of the game which was scored by goalie Ethan Paulin-Hatch.
The clean sweep of the weekend moves the team to 21-7 on the season. They now head to Miami University in Ohio for a three-game weekend series against Lake Superior State University, Liberty University, and Florida Gulf Coast University on Jan. 16-19. They have finished the home portion of their regular season schedule and will finish out their season on the road.
