A brand-new majorette team originated on campus last year.
Excelling in events around campus like the 2023 Lip Sync Battle, their name has been more recognized day after day.
“The Pridettes are all about creating lifelong bonds and bringing more entertainment to our LU campus. Our motto is: Be Kind. Be Confident. Be You,” Pridettes President Alve Harrold said.
The LU Pridettes are recruiting members to join their team and anyone passionate about dance is welcome to join.
“People should join the LU Pridettes because we are here to raise awareness about the majorette community,” Harrold said. “We are focused on creating a safe space for people to come out and dance. The Pridettes are here to Protect the Pride.”
Majorette teams are especially known for being a huge tradition in black culture. They are recognized because of their bright outfits, tricks, and kick lines. Usually performing on the stands or in the field accompanied by the marching band, the majorette teams take all the looks from the audience.
“Our team is wonderful for anyone and everyone with a passion for dance, whether they are experienced or not,” Pridettes Manager Serenity Allison said. “We are a majorette team which is a fusion of hip-hop, jazz, and West African Dance. We are primarily looking for dancers at this time; however, all are welcome to stop by and check us out.”
As members of the LU Pridettes have stated, everyone is welcome, even if you are just looking for people with similar interests, this team might be a good fit for you.
“I love the Pridettes because it’s like a sisterhood. I joined with the intention of making new friends, and I gained a new family,” Allison said.
The LU Pridettes team is striving to get more recognition on campus and around the St Charles community, they have held several events over the last months and will keep doing so for the remainder of the school year.
“We held our first Spirit Week for Black History Month. Our Spirit Week included Mocktails with the Majorettes, Black Jeopardy, Meet the Pridettes, and Black Out Day,” Harrold said. “We had a lot of students and staff come out and help celebrate Black History Month with us! It was truly an unforgettable experience.”
