Lindenwood’s women’s lacrosse team improved to a season-long record of 12-3 recently after a win over Kennesaw State University.
The final score of the game was 17-6, with Alissa Digiacinto leading the way for the Lions scoring.
Lindenwood scored early and often, notching seven goals in the first period, including the first three of the game. Sara Grieco scored the first of the game within the first two minutes of play with an assist from Emily Mowbray. Less than a minute later, Logann Eldredge scored an unassisted goal to make the score 2-0. Digiacinto scored her first of the game later in the period, with Mowbray again on the assist.
After allowing a goal, the Lions scored four times in the last five minutes of the first period. Eldredge again scored unassisted with just under five minutes left. Around the two-minute mark in the period, the Lions scored twice more. Digiacinto found the goal once again for the first of which, assisted by Grieco. 30 seconds later, it was Grieco who was awarded a goal, with an assist from Isabella Rulapaugh. To wrap up the period, Digiacinto scored once more to make the game 7-1 heading to the second period.
Lindenwood again scored frequently in the second period, finding the goal five times. Seven minutes into the quarter, Kiley Davis scored on an assist from Greico. Thirty seconds later, it was Greico who scored an unassisted goal. Digiacinto scored a minute later, unassisted, with Resse Krieger scoring an unassisted goal of her own another minute later. After allowing a Kennesaw goal, the Lions added another score later on in the period, with Eldredge scoring unassisted once again. Kennesaw would score again as well before the end of the period, making the score 12-3 at the end of play.
Kennesaw State opened up scoring in the third period, with a goal within the first two minutes. However, Lindenwood scored three straight goals of their own to follow. Digiacinto scored unassisted with 10 minutes left in play, with Eldredge adding yet another unassisted score, her 56th of the season, with three minutes left in play. Davis wrapped up the period with another score, with help from Mowbray. The score at the end of the period was 15-4.
In the final quarter of play, both teams scored twice, in consecutive order. Lindenwood scored their first two goals early in the period, with Rulapaugh scoring within the first minute, with an assist by Davis. Three and a half minutes later, Lindsey Smith scored her third goal of the season unassisted. Kennesaw State wrapped up the game with two scores in the remaining 10 minutes of play to finalize the score at 17-6.
The Lions now have two remaining games in their schedule, with both being played at home. On Saturday, April 20, the team takes on Liberty University at 11 a.m. that morning. Their last game comes a week later on Saturday, April 27, when the team welcomes the Queens University of Charlotte to campus.
