The Lindenwood men’s rugby team won its first home game against Indiana University Saturday night.
The team now moves to 2-0 on the season after the 45-0 win. Its first win came against Kansas State two weeks ago. The Lion’s second team also played the Hoosiers on Saturday and were also victorious in the effort, outscoring Indiana 65-5.
The Lion’s first team scored early and often, with Chad Tinney recording a try in the first three minutes of the game to make the score 7-0. Byron Forword followed suit shortly after, making the score 12-0 in the games 12th minute. Almost 10 minutes later, Jaryd de Jager added seven more points on a try of his own, making the score 19-0 in favor of the Lions. After a brief lull in scoring, Lindenwood once again added on, as Duncan Krige scored a try in the games 43rd minute, but missed the conversion, keeping the score at 26-0. In the 61st minute, Jeremy Zwick added five more points on a try, and with a successful conversion kick, the score was moved to 33-0. Three minutes later, Lindenwood would score again, as Luke Schaefer scored a try in the 64th minute to make the score 38-0 after yet another successful conversion kick. The last try of the game was scored by Lindenwood’s Guillermo Bilboo, who scored in the games last minute of play, to finalize the game at 45-0.
The Lions now head to Principia College to play on Sept. 18, before returning home to play Iowa Central Community College on Oct. 4 at Hunter Stadium. That game is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
