On their fourth game of a five game, four state road trip, Lindenwood’s men’s soccer team dropped a game to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville by a score of 2-0.
The game got off to a very quick start, and not in the favor of the Lions. The Cougars were able to put up a score in the first 46 seconds of the game, scored by Yasha Schaerer. The goal ended up being the deciding factor of the game, and it was put into the net before the first minute fell off of the game clock. SIUE would add an additional score in the 53rd minute, as Jacobo Sanfeliu put his third goal of the season into the net, beyond Lindenwood goalie Enzo Gil.
The game was not all bad for the Lions, however. Gil ended up saving four shots through the duration of the game, and Anel Kafedzic and Henrique Perestrelo both put two shots on goal throughout the game. Despite this, Cougars goalie Robert Gjelaj blocked each shot, holding Lindenwood scoreless throughout.
A trio of Lions received yellow card warnings in the game, with Josh Francombe having his card pulled in the game’s 20th minute, and Cameron Caldwell seeing his pulled in shortly after, in the 33rd minute. Ethan Blake received the final yellow card for Lindenwood, much later in the match, in the 77th minute of play.
The Lions now finish their road trip in Evansville, Indiana facing off against Southern Indiana University on Oct. 3. The team then heads back to Hunter Stadium for a trio of consecutive home games, with the first set for Sunday, Oct. 6 against Eastern Illinois University. That game is slated to kick off at 3 p.m. that afternoon. The team follows that up with a night game against SIUE at 7 p.m. on Oct. 10, and a Sunday afternoon match at 3 p.m. on Oct. 13 against Western Illinois University.
