This past weekend, the Lions took on the Air Force Academy Falcons for a two-game series that started on Friday night. The Lions started the game off well, as the Lions would light the lamp t 16:01 of the first period. David Gagnon scored the goal, and the assist went to Jack Anderson. Three minutes later, the Falcons would tie the game at one. Lions goalie Owen Bartoszkiewicz would stop eight shots in the period.
Just 35 seconds into the second period, the Lions would take the lead back. This time the goal was scored by Ethan Zielke, also assisted by Anderson. However, at 5:57 of the second, Air Force would tie the game once again, this time at two. The game would remain tied going into the third period. Bartoszkiewicz made eight saves in the period.
In the third period, the Lions would lose the lead at 5:30 when Air Force scored on the power play to take a 3-2 lead. Bartoszkiewicz made eight saves in the final period, for a total of 24 saves in the game. The Lions outshot Air Force 28-27 in the game, despite the loss.
The second game was also a game in which goals were hard to come by. However, the Lions would score first at 12:18 of the first, with Zielke getting the goal assisted by both Jaeden Mercier and Anderson. The Lions would lead 1-0 after the first period. Bartoszkiewicz stopped six shots in the frame.
The second period did not see much action, as both teams were held scoreless. Bartoszkiewicz stopped 10 shots in the period.
At 11:07 of the third period, the Falcons would tie the game at one on the powerplay. With 3:28 left in the game, the Falcons would find the back of the net again to make the score 2-1, which would be the final score of the game. Bartoszkiewicz would make eight saves in the final period, for a total of 24 saves in the loss. Air Force outshot the Lions 26-21 in the game.
With the loss, the Lions fall to 1-3 on the season. The Lions face off against Miami University (OH) on Oct. 25th and 26th in Oxford, Ohio.
