Over the past weekend, the Lions traveled to Oxford, Ohio to take on the RedHawks in a two-game series. Game one started off slow for both teams, but the RedHawks would get on the board first with under a minute left to go in the first period. The RedHawks outshot the Lions 8-6 in the period and led 1-0.
At 6:02 in the second period, the Lions would tie the game at one with a goal by Alexander Lundman, assisted by Drew Kuzma and Jake Southgate. The game went into the third period tied at one. The RedHawks outshot the Lions 12-10 in the second.
At 4:29 into the third period, the Lions would take the lead on a goal by David Gagnon, which was assisted by both Noah Houle and Kristof Papp. Less than two minutes later, Gagnon would score again, this time short-handed to make the score 3-1 Lions. At 11:06 the RedHawks would get a goal of their own to make it 3-2, but the Lions would respond quickly. Less than one minute later, Papp would score a goal of his own to make it 4-2 Lions. The goal would be assisted by Southgate and Gagnon. The RedHawks outshot the Lions 13-6 in the third, and a total of 33-22 in the game. Lions goalie Owen Bartoszkiewicz stopped 31 of the 33 shots that he faced in the win.
In game two of the series, the offense started early for the RedHawks as they took a 1-0 lead 5:30 into the opening period. With 50 seconds left in the frame, the Lions would tie the game at one on a goal by Kuzma, assisted by both Southgate and Joe Prouty. The Lions outshot the RedHawks 10-9 in the first.
In the second period, the RedHawks would take the lead back with a power play goal to make it 2-1. The Lions outshot the RedHawks 11-5 in the second.
In the third period, the Lions could not find the back of the net and the RedHawks put the game out of reach scoring two goals. First, a shorthanded goal at 11:31 and then an empty net goal with less than two minutes to play to make the score 4-1. The Lions outshot the RedHawks 14-3 in the third period and 35-17 for the game, despite the loss. Bartoszkiewicz stopped 13 of the 17 shots that he faced in the loss.
With the split, the Lions are now 2-4 on the season. The Lions take on Robert Morris University on Nov. 1st and 2nd in Moon Township, Pa.
