In the first round of the Ohio Valley Conference tournament, the Lindenwood women’s soccer team defeated Southeast Missouri State by a score of 4-0 to elevate themselves to the semifinal round of the tournament.
The Lions came out swinging against the Redhawks, scoring twice within the first three minutes of play in the match. Just as the clock advanced past the two-minute mark, Anna Johnson found the back of the net for the fifth time this season, making the score 1-0 in favor of the Lions. The goal was assisted by Mackenzie Compton, who would score a goal of her own just over 50 seconds later, making the game 2-0 early. Somewhat fittingly, Compton’s goal was assisted by Johnson, as the two combined for the decisive goals in the game, all before the clock turned to the three-minute mark of the game.
Twelve minutes later, the Lions would sound the buzzer to make the score 3-0, and it would once again be Compton responsible for the score. In the 15th minute of play Compton scored her second goal of the game, and seventh of the season, assisted by both Jessica Dodd and Allison Schrumpf.
The game would endure an hour of game time between scores, as the Lions wouldn’t find the net again until after halftime. In the 75th minute of play, Maddy Vasiloff found the net for the first time this season, padding the Lions lead to 4-0. The goal was assisted by both Peyton Hatfield and Georgia Pardalos.
In terms of yellow cards, the game saw three handed down, two to SEMO players, and one to Lindenwood. Two of which came within 14 seconds of each other in the 58th minute, first towards Compton and then to SEMO’s Sophie Shrum. In the 88th minute, Redhawk Katelyn Miller pulled a yellow card, the final of the game.
All in all, the Lions took 10 shots on goal against SEMO. Compton led the way with four, with Lily Sutter closely behind with two of her own. Four additional Lions each recorded one, including Johnson, Vasiloff, Mattie Ohlsen, and Tasneem Dizdarevic. Lions’ goalie Caroline Ritter was a perfect four for four in blocking shots in the game, playing the full 90 minutes in the match.
The Lions’ now head to Cookeville, Tennessee on Thursday, Nov. 7 to play number two ranked Little Rock in the semifinal round at 3 p.m.
