The Lindenwood softball team hosted a midweek doubleheader against the Evansville Purple Aces on Wednesday at the Lou Brock Sports Complex. The Lions came into this doubleheader with a record of 10-9 (1-2 OVC) on the season, while the Purple Aces came in 12-11 (0-0 MVC)
The Lions started Samantha Roulanaitis in the circle for game one, being opposed by Gracie Hollingsworth for the Aces. Roulanaitis had a rough first inning allowing three runs on a three run home run by the Aces, Jess Willsey. Then she settled in nicely and allowed no runs for the other four innings that she pitched. Avery Wapp came in relief for the Lions pitching the final two innings and striking out five of the six batters that he faced.
On the offensive side Anna Sanders went 2-3 at the plate including a triple, and Nicole Henson had a triple of her own in the game and scored a run while Teryn Brown added the only RBI of game one. The Lions had a total of only six hits in game one.
Roulanaitis (1-3) got charged with the loss, despite pitching well after the first inning.
For game two the Lions turned to Wapp in the circle to start. Wapp threw 4.1 innings allowing one run on two hits with five strikeouts. Ryleigh Owens came on in relief, and she ended up allowing the game winning run on only two hits.
As for the offense, once again it was mostly quiet. The Lions did not get their first hit of the game until the third inning when Dallis Darnell singled. The only run for the Lions came in the fourth inning when Tori Hatton singled to bring in Sanders.
Owens (4-4) took the loss in game two. There were only a total of seven hits in the entire game, with the Lions having only three.
With the midweek losses, the Lions now sit with a record of 10-11 (1-2 OVC) while the Purple Aces improve to 14-11 (0-0 MVC)
