Around 9 p.m., the news was unleashed on X that Sony was having a panel at Cinema-Con, and that they would have huge news regarding the future of Tom Hollands Spider-Man and his next iteration on the big screen.
30 minutes later, and the news was unleashed. They had officially changed the title to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and gave it a July 31st, 2026 release date to go along with it.
The director for this new Spiderman outing is Destin Daniel Cretton, who was last in the MCU directing Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings starring Simu Liu and outside of the MCU directed Just Mercy starring Michael B. Jordan.
Some other big names returning are Zendaya and Jacob Batalon who played Peter Parkers friends in Michelle Jones (MJ) and Ned. They have also added Sadie Sink to the cast, but her role is currently unknown with speculation and rumors suggesting that she may be the next to play the infamous mutant Jean Grey previously played by Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner.
Since this was presented at a major convention, Sony did have the director of the new Spider-Man to speak on the film and their production timeline. They did not however have the main star in the building but they did bring him in on a zoom where he addressed the audience.
“I am so sorry I can’t be with you. I am halfway around the world shooting a movie. I know we left you with a massive cliff hanger at the end of ‘No Way Home,’ so ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is a fresh start. It is exactly that. That’s all I can say.”
Tom Holland is referencing how he is working on Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” at the moment with Matt Damon, Zendaya, and Anne Hathaway as his co-stars. This also is a much different tone from Tom Holland seeing as how he is the spoiler king within the MCU. However, this now opened the door for comment from the director himself.
“I am spending my time exploring the next stage of this amazing character with a team of the most incredible artists in the world. We’re all, just daily, nerding out over the suit, how to swing, how to create an event, an emotional story, and a ride we haven’t really seen before.”
Director Destin Daniel Cretton also stated that they are going to begin filming this summer.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is slated for July 31st, 2026 exclusively in theatres
