Seven Lindenwood men grew out their mustaches for the Share Your Stash, to raise money for a national charity.
Phi Delta Theta hosted the event in Evans Commons Nov. 30. Contestants showed off their mustaches, and students could purchase votes for their favorite mustached man.
“The event was extremely successful,” said Phi Delta Theta Philanthropy Chair Matt Ream. “We raised $291 to be donated to the ALS Association, nearly doubling the amount we raised last year.”
According to Ream, the ALS Association is one of the main organizations that Phi Delta Theta focuses on in its philanthropy.
Of the seven men, one was freshman Phi Delta Theta member Matt Evers. Not only did Evers participate because he can “grow facial hair easily,” as he said, but he also had other motives.
“My neighbor back home actually has ALS,” said Evers. “Seeing him go through this horrible disease is something that you wouldn’t wish upon anyone, especially someone who was, at one point, active enough to serve our country.”
Evers was the winner of the best mustache in Phi Delta Theta, but Degan Clay garnered the most votes at the event, according to Ream.
“We plan to do this event every November, and we expect it to grow each year” Ream said.
