KCLC’s HD-3 station, The Tower, has recently aired a new weekly show, entitled The Lion’s Den, in which weekly interviews with university athletes and coaches are conducted live, and aired on the station.
The show, which is hosted by communications majors James Zugmaier and Emily Gawedzinski, has now seen three different episodes air.
“Putting this show together has really helped me in my path to working in sports,” Gawedzinski said. “Meeting all of the different coaches and players always shows a new perspective and a new way to look at things,”
Lindenwood’s athletic department is also heavily involved in the development of the show, aiding in providing access to the coaches and the players for the hosts to interview. The athletic social media pages have also been very active about promoting the show, with multiple posts appearing on the Lindenwood Lions Instagram pages.
“Our show, so far, has been getting coaches on, meeting with them before, going over the show, and meeting with them for 30 minutes about the team, and themselves,” Zugmaier said. “The formatting we are using is very much still a student broadcast, but I think we’ve done a decent job so far,”
The first two episodes featured Lindenwood football coach Jed Stugart, who joined the show to discuss the beginning of the team’s season. The third, and most recent episode, featured the women’s volleyball coach Will Condon, as well as volleyball player Rebecca Janke. The interview with Janke marked the first time in three episodes that an athlete was featured on the show, in addition to their coaches.
“It’s a good way to get The Tower on the map, and get people to listen,” Zugmaier said. “Students get to listen to people they know on campus, and athletes tune into listen to their coaches,”
The show is recorded each week live in the Evans Commons, with the start of the show occurring at 7 p.m. According to Zugmaier, running the show live in Evans promotes a new level of advertising to other students.
“There’s people able to see you, and then they see the KCLC tablecloth,” Zugmaier said. “They realize that something is going on with the student side of things here, there’s a student production happening,”
On this week’s episode of The Lion’s Den, Zugmaier and Gawedzinski are slated to interview women’s soccer coach, Dave Musso, and expect to have an appearance from midfielder Rachel Jackson as well.
“I’m really excited for this week’s show” Gawedzinski said. “The women’s soccer team just started conference play, there’s a lot to talk about.”
