For Lindenwood students walking in next weekend’s graduate and undergraduate ceremonies, it might be a longer road to graduation than expected.
According to a press release from the Missouri Department of Transportation, or MODOT, all lanes of eastbound Interstate 70 between Route 94 and Fifth Street in St. Charles will be closed starting at 11 p.m. on Friday, May 13 (the date of LU’s 7 p.m. undergraduate commencement) until the following Monday at 5 a.m. The closure is due to the planned demolition of the Fairgrounds Road bridge, part of the new full interchange built at I-70 and Farigrounds Road.
People participating in or working at the ceremonies, which will take place at the St. Charles Family Arena, are advised to plan for extra travel time, especially for the undergraduate ceremony, which is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m on Saturday, May 14.
Motorists can travel around the closure by taking a detour on Routes 364 or 370. Veterans Memorial Parkway, which only carries traffic heading east, will also be open.
