Lindenwood’s men’s golf team finished 12th out of 20 teams at the University of Central Missouri Invitational, which was held at Mules National Golf Club in Warrensburg, Missouri, on Sept. 11 and 12.
After a first-place finish in The Arch Cup, the three-round tournament tested the team’s skills against other teams in its division. Yente Van Doren had the highest individual finish for the Lions at 9 over par, which tied him for 17th place.
Markus Lindgren finished tied for 36th with 13 over par. He led Lindenwood with nine birdies during the tournament, according to lindenwoodlions.com. Other golfers include: Ville Vakipartra, who tied for 48th with 17 over par, Alejandro Canizares, who tied for 60th with 20 over par and Caleb Picker came in 85th place with 27 over par.
Arkansas Tech came in first place with a score of 17 over par. Central Oklahoma came in second with a 31 over par. Henderson finished third, only one behind Central Oklahoma, with a 32 over par. Lindenwood ended with a score of 57 over par.
Putter Srinoon of Arkansas Tech finished in first place with one over par for the tournament. Mason Banger from Harding University also finished with one over par, but his last round was three over par, giving Srinoon the lead.
This tournament was the first in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA). Throughout the season, there are only two of these tournaments making these tournaments unique.
“Even those these tournaments are MIAA, we do not really do anything much different to prepare for them,” said head coach Derek Schaub.
The team’s next tournament is Sept. 18 and 19 at the Northeastern State Men’s Golf Classic. This tournament will be played at Northeastern State University Muskogee Golf Club in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
