The first weekly Lindenwood Student Government Executive Board and Finance Committee meeting took place on Tuesday evening in the Evans Commons room 3020.
Two new Student Involvement members introduced themselves, funds requests were approved, and the board voiced possible changes that could take place for next school year.
Carynn Smith is the new associate director of Student Involvement. Smith said she will “keep eyes on funding requests” and the Student Involvement budget.
Josh Gilliam is the new business and facilities coordinator. Gilliam said he will “oversee” Smith and make sure that everything is done properly.
Director of Student Involvement Angie Royal voiced a concern about “hating taking up space” by using Dunseth Auditorium in Harmon Hall when there are only 32 General Assembly members of LSG, and wants to move the meetings to Evans Commons in room 3020.
LSG President Posy Durr said she thinks it’ll “encourage senators to come to the office more often.”
Alpha Psi Omega, the national theatre honor society, requested funds for the 24 Hour Play Festival, where members have 24 hours to write, cast and direct six original scripts.
Funds were requested for snacks for members during the event, and were approved in the amount of $125.40.
Co-ed fraternity Delta Sigma Pi requests funds for five events for recruitment week.
On Tuesday, Jan. 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the main lobby of Harmon Hall, Delta Sigma Pi will be hosting “Morning Coffee with Brothers,” where they will be handing out coffee, bagels, hot chocolate and information about the fraternity. Funds in the amount of $104.48 were requested, and approved.
The “Suit and Tie with Men’s Warehouse” will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 23 from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Dunseth Auditorium, where a representative from the store will come in and give tips on how to dress for interviews. Discounts and promotions for Men’s Warehouse will also be offered. Funds for refreshments in the amount of $51.46 were requested, and approved.
A game night on Thursday, Jan. 24 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in Dunseth Auditorium was next up on the list to be approved for funds. The game is a Family Feud inspired game called “Brother Feud.” Funds in the amount of $103.47 for food, and $218.27 for prizes were requested, and approved.
Delta Sigma Pi will be hosting another tabling event in the main lobby of Harmon Hall on Friday, Jan. 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. where members will hand out coffee, hot chocolate, pastries and information about the fraternity. Funds in the amount of $121.65 for the refreshments were requested, and approved.
The last event that the fraternity requested funds for was its Saturday Social Night with the theme being Tropical Wonderland because of Missouri’s “unpredictable” weather. There will be an ugly Christmas sweater contest, beach volleyball, hot chocolate and ice cream. Funds in the amount of $210.00 for food, and $59.72 for decorations were requested, and approved.
The next LSG Executive Board and Finance Committee meeting will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 22 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Evans Commons Multipurpose room.
