A Kids Against Hunger care-packing event is taking place today and will continue on Saturday in the Evans Commons recreation center.
According to Kids Against Hunger St. Peters website, food packaged this weekend will be sent to children in Haiti and in East St. Louis.
Dan Vincent is the Director of Kids Against Hunger in St. Peters and helped organize the event.
“The unique thing about Kids Against Hunger is this food is specifically designed for children with malnutrition,” Vincent said.
The purpose of this and similar events is to pack food and collect funds for children with malnutrition in both third-world countries and locally. At Lindenwood, the organization is planning to pack 250,000 meals and raise 75,000 dollars.
This is the second time Lindenwood has hosted this event. Vincent said the university provided the recreation center free of charge and that Pedestal Foods donates food for the workers who volunteer to help during the event.
For Vincent, being at Lindenwood allows them to have more influence in the community because everybody in this area knows about Lindenwood.
To participate in this event, students can subscribe through eventbrite.com or just show up during packing times over the weekend.
Packing started today at 12:30 p.m. and will go until 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, packing will resume at 8 a.m. and go until 8:30 p.m.
“Even if there is no space for you to pack, I encourage people to come grab a hot dog and support the community,” Vincent said.
