On Sept. 23, the 64th annual primetime Emmy Awards was viewed by millions on ABC. The awards began at 7 p.m. central time and lasted for three hours. The show was hosted by late night talk show host, Jimmy Kimmel.

The evening began with the nominees for lead actress in a comedy series. Those nominees were Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Lena Dunham, Edie Falco, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Melissa McCarthy and Zooey Deschanel. The Emmy went to Louis-Dreyfus for her portrayal of the Vice President of America in HBO’s “VEEP.”

As the evening went on, much anticipated categories were decided such as lead actor and actress in a Drama ,which went to Damien Lewis and Claire Danes, both from the show “Homeland.” The winner of lead actor in a comedy was a shock to most, given to John Cryer of “Two and a Half Men.”

Halfway through the show, Kimmel pulled a prank on everyone not watching the Emmy’s by having 30 Rock star Tracy Morgan lie down on the stage and requested that everyone watching to tweet, “OMG Tracy Morgan passed out on stage, turn on ABC now!,” in an attempt to get more viewers.

A few of the winners were upsets to fans. The award for Supporting Actor/Actress in a comedy both went to Modern Family stars Eric Stonestreet and Julie Bowen. “Modern Family” also beat out “30 Rock” and other comedies in the best comedy category for the third year in a row.

Winning the award for best Variety Series was Jon Stewart from “The Daily Show with John Stewart.”  After Stewart’s name was announced, Jimmy Fallon, another nominee, tackled Stewart to the floor as he walked up to accept his award.
