The public is invited to attend a Cyber Safety Summit this Saturday at Fort Zumwalt North High School.
The St. Charles County Cyber Crime Task Force along with the Megan Meier Foundation, the prosecuting attorney’s office, and others have partnered up to inform the public and children about staying safe and behaving appropriately on the internet.
“We have a pretty good block of sessions to have people choose from, and learn what they are most interested in,” Lt. Mark O’Neill said. O’Neill is the supervisor of the St. Charles County Cyber Task Force.
The day includes speakers from the Megan Meier Foundation, open forums to bring in questions from parents and law enforcement, and parent-only sessions discussing anything from internet lingo to parental controls.
According to a Pew Research study, 95% of teens are online. This is one of the reasons why Lt. O’Neill helped organize this event.
“We’re hoping for better, more open communication between parents and children,” Lt. O’Neill said.
Criminal justice students interested in cybercrime are welcome to attend, as well.
The summit is Jan. 20 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Fort Zumwalt North High School, which is across the street from the St. Charles County Police station.
