On April 15th, the gaming world was shocked to hear the news that the next installment in the Elder Scrolls series would not in fact be Elder Scrolls VI, which they had announced in June of 2018 at that years E3 presentation, but instead it would be a remaster of one of their more revolutionary titles within the series.
This comes from a leak from the developer Virtuos site, where there were in-game screenshots showing the game in a new 4K scale as well as key art to promote the games upcoming release. These leaks were made public on reddit by user Taurnil in the oblivion subreddit. They would also post shots of the original game from 2006 side by side with the 2025 remaster, in the same locations, to show the stark differences and how they have evolved the title.
Words of this remaster have been circulating since 2020 with a leaked document from Microsoft, as well as a further leak during the Microsoft Activision merger, when they released documents that were incorrectly redacted showing that the remaster was in the works. This was further reinforced though as a former Virtuos employee, in 2023, confirmed the game was in development, but in Unreal Engine 5 which had not been said until that leak.
Now as far as the release that is speculatory as well, however there was a further leak for that to. There were rumors about a possible “shadow drop” where the game would just be released with no announcement, but people were not happy with that answer. With all this coming out on Twitter as well as reddit, people took it to ask Xbox support about a possible date of release. Take this with a grain of salt but the support account would state that the game would release as early as Monday, April 21st, 2025 on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. If this is true, the summer game cycle is going to kick off with an absolute banger.
