Men’s Golf
The Lions traveled to Madison, Illinois, last Tuesday for the Arch Cup to open the season. Adam Bain led the Lions with a score of +3 which tied him for 8th overall. The Lions finished 5th out of eight teams in the event and will be back in action again until the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational on Sep. 29-30.
Field Hockey
Field Hockey opened the season with a 1-0 double-overtime loss to Adelphi University and a 2-1 win over Mercy College.
Senior Bridgette Hoogendijk scored the first goal against Mercy then later assisted senior Lauren Roberts on a goal in the 48th minute.
The Lions will host the next four games starting with the first match on Sep. and will take on Frostburg State University.
Women’s Volleyball
Women’s Volleyball opened their season 3-0, sweeping the Bobcat Classic Friday and Saturday with victories over Limestone College, Tusculum University and Georgia College, all while not dropping a single set.
The lions will host the Lindenwood Invitational Friday and Saturday, Sep. 13-14 and will take on Cedarville University, Ohio Dominican University and University of Montevallo.
Women’s Soccer
Women’s soccer opened the season with a 2-0 win over Missouri Western State on Friday and a 1-0 loss to Emporia State on Sunday.
The Lions scored both of their goals in the first half against Missouri Western to notch their first win of the season. Junior Amanda Orlando netted the first goal of the game on a free-kick in her Lindenwood debut. The second was scored by senior Sammi Gregory in the 41st minute and was assisted by sophomore Jill Wipke. Junior goalie Megan Swanson kept the net clean the entire game, making 2 saves.
An early second-half goal from Emporia State kept the Lions from winning out the weekend. Swanson started this game in goal as well, saving 2 of the 3 shots she faced.
Next, the Lions will take on the University of Missouri – St. Louis on Sunday, Sep. 15. This will be the first GLVC game for the Lions.
Men’s Soccer
Men’s soccer opened its season with one win, one loss. The Lions lost against Christian Brothers University 2-1 on Friday and beat Upper Iowa University 3-1 on Sunday.
The match against Christians Brothers was stagnant until all three goals were scored in the last few minutes of regulation. Christian Brothers scored the first goal in the 80th minute. Sophomore Luke McBeth tied the game for the Lions with two minutes left on the clock. Christian Brothers then scored the game-winning goal with only 34 seconds left in regulation. Sophomore goalie Tim Licht started the game in net and stopped 3 of the 5 shots he faced.
Junior Leon Silva opened the scoring for the Lions in the match against Upper Iowa, scoring the only goal for either side in the first half. The Lions outscored Upper Iowa 2-1 in the second half with goals from freshman Jacob Quinn and senior Thomas Hutcheson, securing the first win of the season.
Next, the lions will take on University of Missouri – St. Louis on Sunday, Sep. 15, at home for the first Great Lakes Valley Conference game of the season.
Cross Country
Men’s and Women’s cross country both took on Truman State in a dual meet on Friday. The men narrowly edged out Truman State 29-30 while the women fell 23-38.
Seniors Austin Crowe and Ero Doce each ran the 6k in under 20 minutes.
Next, both the men and women travel to Joplin, Missouri to take on Missouri Southern State University Saturday, Sep. 21.
Football
Last but not least, the lions opened the season with a 59-31 loss to Division 1 FCS Eastern Washington University.
Eastern Washington led wire to wire in a game full of offense. The Eagles built up a 31 point lead before the Lions could get on the board. The Lions did all of its scoring in the second and third quarters.
Sophomore quarterback Cade Brister completed 27 of his 50 passes for 283 yards and 4 touchdowns. Sophomore Payton Rose caught 6 passes resulting in 97 yards and 2 touchdowns. Senior Erik Henneman caught 5 passes for 42 yards and a touchdown. Senior Najee Jackson added 7 catches for 83 yards.
The Lions will take on next Midwestern State University Texas on Saturday, Sep. 14 for its first home game of the season.
