ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Lindenwood women’s wrestling team hosted their senior night tournament against the Missouri Baptist Spartans on Jan. 29, winning 43 to 5.
Frank Yattoni, the head coach, said, “We only had 5 matches, so you’d like to see ten full matches and the whole team wrestle, but I think we wrestled well.” He is grateful that the team got the chance to perform in front of a big crowd as practice for their upcoming tournaments.
According to Sara Lake, a senior on the team, this season has been different. This was Yattoni’s first season as the women’s wrestling head coach, after being the assistant coach. With Yattoni’s previous experience, Lake feels he has been able to bond with the team very well and lead every one of the wrestlers to improve each day they’ve stepped on the mat.
“We’ve had more luck persevering and having stronger matches this year,” Lake said. “We’ve been working extra hard to win more, make it to the line-up in regionals, and hopefully to Nationals too.”
This Wednesday, the team will be traveling to Quincy, Illinois, to take on the Quincy Hawks. For the remainder of the regular season, as a whole, the Lions are striving to continue to be ranked top 10, win Regionals, and get a top 10 finish at the National Tournament.
