Lindenwood offers two fitness training centers on the St. Charles campus, the Fitness Center and Evans Commons Rec Center.

The Fitness Center/Field House is a facility for students to weight train. In addition to having racks of free weights and other equipment, students can jog around the track and use a variety of special equipment for sport-specific training.

Evans Commons Rec Center features a weight room, basketball courts, running machines, a track court on the top floor and other machines meant to work on pretty much all of your muscles.

During the regular fall and spring semesters, the Fitness Center is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., and the Rec Center 6 a.m. – 1 a.m.

For some students, the Fitness Center is preferred because of its environment and available equipment.

International business student Luis Zuniga said, “I would rather work out at the Fitness Center because it counts with more equipment. For example, there are two racks of weights, so if the gym is too crowded, there is more of a chance to find the dumbbell weight that I need to work out. But at Evans there is only one rack of weights and most of the time it is crowded, so I can’t workout with the dumbbells that I need. Also, for press work outs there are several tools to use, so there will always be space for me to workout [at the Fitness Center].”

Additionally, “The temperature is better adapted to work out at the Fitness Center. I like to sweat when I work out, so it is much easier to do it when the temperature is over 25 degrees Celsius  or 80 Fahrenheit, but at the Rec Center it is hard because of the air conditioner.” stated Andres Coloma, a business administration student.

One drawback of the Fitness Center is that non-athletes are only permitted to work out until 2 p.m., and only athletes can use the facility after 2 p.m. with their coaches at scheduled hours. This is an issue because not everybody has a open schedule to go to work out during a short period of time in the morning.

On the other hand, the Evans Commons Rec Center schedule is more convenient for everybody to work out. This often causes the facility to become crowded late in the day because there is no other place for non-athletes to go to work out.
