After months of question and concern surrounding COVID-19, the Lindenwood football community has finally received clarity regarding their upcoming spring season.

On Monday, the Great Lakes Valley Conference officially announced their football season for next semester, that includes a shortened, five-week schedule with play starting in late-March.

Each team will begin their respective seasons with a scrimmage opener, that is followedup by three weeks of round-robin style divisional-play. Their seasons will then conclude with a conference playoff game, where the two top teams in each division will clash for the GLVC Championship.

The Lions will play in the East Division that consists of Indianapolis, McKendree, and Quincy; while Missouri S&T, Southwest Baptist, Truman State, and William Jewell will compete in the West.

Lions 2021 Spring Football Schedule:

-Week 1 Scrimmage (Saturday, March 27): Lindenwood at Southwest Baptist

-Week 2 (Saturday, April 3): Lindenwood at McKendree

-Week 3 (Saturday, April 10): Indianapolis at Lindenwood

-Week 4 (Saturday, April 17): Quincy at Lindenwood

-Week 5 (Saturday, April 24): GLVC Playoff at TBD

“I feel great about getting back to football,” redshirt junior quarterback Cade Brister said. “I feel this is a great opportunity for us to play together as a team rather than going against our defense every day.”

In Lindenwood’s first season in GLVC conference-play last year, the Lions went undefeated and captured the school’s first conference championship since joining NCAA Division II in the summer of 2013.

According to Brister, the team’s focus is not about the success of last year though.

This is a new season,” Brister said. “Now that we know what is takes to win a conference championship, there is no time to waste thinking about last year. Everyone in this conference is hungry and eager to get to competing, so it should be a lot of fun getting back out there.”
