The Lindenwood baseball team entered this season as one of the main teams to watch and have since delivered. But now the team is experiencing a normal setback for this day and age: a two-week quarantine period.

In total, 10 members of the Lindenwood baseball team, which consists of seven pitchers and three position players, has been forced to quarantine for the next two weeks. The rest of the team will resume practices and day-to-day activities today.

The quarantine period comes after a four-game series sweep against Drury University, which saw the Lions improve to a 12-0 record on the season and featured eight of the 10 players currently in quarantine protocols.

“Certainly disappointed in that it disrupts our momentum,” coach Doug Bletcher said, in the physical sense and especially in the fact that the players and assistant coaches have worked so hard to get to this point. But I take solace in the fact that the team is so adept mentally that they will see this as another opportunity to get through this and they will realize that it will make them ever stronger in the long run.

Bletcher also added that during this quarantine period where Lindenwood won’t be competing against other schools, he looks forward to the quality practices that can be achieved from the players and coaching staff.

Lindenwood was initially scheduled to play Washington University in a four-game series next weekend, but that has since been canceled. The next four-game series is scheduled for April 9 through April 11, when Lindenwood travels to Lewis University.

Currently ranked No. 3 in the nation by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, Lindenwood is looking to fill the national title void left there by the canceled 2020 season when COVID first started.

“Our guys will embrace the situation at hand,” Bletcher said.
