No. 21 Lindenwood suffered a 40-20 loss to the Angelo State Rams (San Angelo, Texas) in their first game since 2019.

This was the first time Lindenwood faced off against the Rams in a regular season contest.

The Lions got off to a rough start early in the first quarter, trailing 16-0. They later began to retaliate with a tipped pass that led to an interception by senior linebacker Drew Seers. Junior quarterback Cade Brister followed this up with a 35 yard touchdown pass to senior receiver Tyler Chandler to make it 16-7.

After a dropped punt by the Rams in the second quarter, the Lions were able to recover the fumble and turn it into points on the other end. Brister capitalized with a 24 yard touchdown pass to senior receiver Alex Faddoul to end the half with the score at 23-14.

Angelo State scored 14 points in the third quarter.

Brister scored Lindenwood’s final touchdown on a two yard run into the end zone to make the score 37-20. The defense was able to hold Angelo State to a three-and-out, causing the Rams to settle for a field goal to make it 40-20.

The Lions accumulated 270 yards of total offense in the game. Brister finished the game completing 24-of-43 passes for 238 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.

Lindenwood’s defense was led by Seers with 13 total tackles, CJ McClure with nine and a tackle-for-loss, and Tre Hendon with eight tackles and two sacks.

The Lions (0-1) will travel to take on South Dakota State University on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 6 p.m.
