Five consecutive seasons of heartbreak and falling short were put in the rearview mirror last Tuesday when Lindenwood’s men’s ice hockey team defeated the University of Central Oklahoma 8-3 to win the American Collegiate Hockey Association, or ACHA, title.

The win marks the fourth time in which Lindenwood has won the ACHA, and the team’s first time winning the national title since 2015-16.

The tournament started on March 11 at the Centene Community Ice Center with a 3-0 win vs. No. 17 University of Michigan-Dearborn. After a 6-0 win against No. 8 Stony Brook University (New York) on March 13, the Lions earned a trip to the final with a 5-1 victory over No. 7 Adrian College (Michigan) on March 14.

A day later, Lindenwood scored its most goals in the tournament with an eight-goal outburst against Central Oklahoma on Tuesday, March 15, to win the national title.

In the team’s final season in the ACHA, with Lindenwood moving to NCAA Division I, the Lions finished the year with a record of 22-3-0 overall.
