On Friday, Oct. 20, Lindenwood’s Division II ACHA Men’s Hockey team beat Weber State University by a score of 5-1, for game one of the Lindenwood Showcase.
Lindenwood came out of the gate slow, as they failed to score in the first period. However, it didn’t take long for the Lions to respond, as senior Sam Watson tied the game, finding the net within the first 30 seconds of the second period. A few minutes later, junior Jacob Behnen gave the Lions a lead, scoring a goal of his own.
The Lions defense was able to hold the Wildcats at bay, despite the opposition being on a power play, thanks to penalties being handed down on a fight that occurred behind the Lions goal halfway through the second period. As time winded down in the second period, junior Michael Mullen scored the third and final goal of the period for Lindenwood.
In the final period, the Lions added two more goals, the first of which coming from freshman Zac Maupin, with an assist from Austin Meers.
The Wildcats followed up with their one, and only, goal of the game, but Lions senior Sean McMahon quickly responded with a goal of his own to make the score 5-1, concluding the scoring of the game.
Senior goalie Ethan Paulin-Hatch had an impressive game in the net as well, stopping 28 of the 29 shots the Wildcats made on him, good enough to earn the win.
Now on the season, the Lions are 8-1, only having dropped a game to Trine University earlier in October.
The next game of the Lindenwood Showcase sees the Lions taking on University of Iowa on Saturday, Oct. 21, with puck drop at 8:30 p.m. Lindenwood wraps up the showcase on Sunday, Oct. 22, by welcoming DePaul University to the Centene Community Ice Center, with puck drop for that game coming at 3:45 p.m.
