LSG General Assembly: 2024 Executive Board, 24/7 Market

The Lindenwood Student Government General Assembly Meeting was called to order at 4:01 p.m. by President Clayton Herbst.

The first guest for the meeting was interim general manager of Sodexo Jan Conrardy who provided updates with Lindenwood Dining Services. She gave the following updates:

  • Pizza Hut opened Feb. 10.
  • Fish will be available on Fridays during Lent in Spellmann.
  • New mango passion beverage is available at Chick-fil-A.
  • Ordering through the Starbucks app will be available beginning March 11.
    • Any orders being paid with dining dollars cannot be done through the Starbucks app.
  • Sodexo Events:
    • Steak and Double Swipe in Evans, Feb. 20.
    • Birthday Celebration in Evans, Feb. 27.
    • Black History Month Celebration in Evans, Feb. 28.
  • Student Satisfaction Survey will be launched on March 11 and will be available until March 22.
    • This survey gives Sodexo feedback and suggestions for improvement.

The other guest for the meeting was Associate Provost Dr. Mark Valenzuela who provided students with a link to a survey regarding the board of trustees. 

“If you complete the survey before Monday, we will have a drawing for a $25 Amazon gift card that we will get back to you and we will proudly present to you but this will be helpful especially as we think about what is the spring interaction for these students with the board of trustees,” Valenzuela said.

Meeting highlights include the following:

  • President Clayton Herbst told the student body that the opening of a 24/7 market for students would be delayed until the fall due to “exciting factors.” Later on in the meeting, Associate Vice President of Student Affairs Heather Black said that they are looking into an “all tech-based market” and delivered survey results from the student body about addition.
  • Herbst stated in a report that he is still working on offering contraceptives to students in the Pride Market.
  • Vice President Emelyn Smuskevich reminded students to submit nominations for the Black and Gold Awards on InvolveU. The awards will be held on April 11 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Smuskevich announced that applications for certain positions on the 2024-2025 LSG Executive Board will be re-opened due to no applicants. Later on in the meeting, the elected 2024-2025 LSG Executive Board was announced.
  • Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Tanastwa Beta reported that the Amazing Race will be held in honor of Disability Awareness Month.
  • Director of Finance Markell Roper reported that three student organizations requested and were approved funds from the LSG General Fund less than $150. The organizations were the International Student Fellowship, LU Pridettes, and the Psych Interest Club.
  • Four funds requests were approved, leaving the General Fund total at $6,645.26. The requests approved were:
    • Self Care Club: Paint Night.
    • Self Care Club: Ice Cream Study Night.
    • LU Pridettes: Mocktails with the Majorettes.
    • LU Fashion Society: Lindenwood University Met Gala 2024.
  • LSG Advisors reminded organizations that re-registration will open March 1 and close May 1. Advisor Madison Shaw said that they plan to have a computer room set up at some point during that time for students to come in and register if they need help.
  • Black and Herbst told the General Assembly that, due to issues with the vehicle vendors, Lindenwood is still having issues obtaining buses to provide students with off-campus transportation. Black sent out a survey to international students about transportation options but said the buses would be available for everyone.

The following events were announced during the meeting:

  • PCBE Club is having its first event on Feb. 20 at 4 p.m. in Harmon 119.
  • CAB is hosting Bowling Night on Feb. 23, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at Plaza Lanes Bowling Center.
  • Sophomore Council is hosting Sophomore Slump Study Night on Feb. 27 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. (open to everyone).
  • The Amazing Race will be held March 27 from 1:45 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Spring into Service will be March 23 from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. with registration on InvolveU.

At the end of the meeting, the 2024-2025 Executive Board was announced:

  • President: Emelyn Smuskevich
  • Vice President: Colin Mcneamey
  • Speaker of the House: Maria Clark
  • Director of Academic Affairs: Abbey Tromblee
  • Director of Community Outreach: Kathryn Moyers
  • Director of Finance: Markell Roper
