Lindenwood women’s lacrosse (9-2, 2-1 ASUN) had their eight game win streak snapped on Saturday, after suffering a 16-11 loss to the Jacksonville Dolphins (7-4, 3-0 ASUN).
Weather conditions were not favorable for either team, as it rained the entire game with a weather delay that lasted about 40 minutes late in the third quarter.
Reese Kreiger, Ryleigh Cavanaugh and Alissa DiGiacinto led the way for the Lions with two goals each. DiGiacinto also tallied a pair of assists amassing the 100 career point mark in her Lindenwood career. Five other Lions tallied a goal with Luci Selander also racking up two assists.
Jacksonville’s defense was ferocious in the game as they limited Lindenwood to just two goals in the second and third quarters combined and allowed them to pull away for the win as Dolphins goalie Brookelynn Hodgin was a force, allowing only 11 goals and racking up 10 saves.
It was a very back-and-forth first quarter, as Jacksonville struck first before back-to-back goals from DiGiacinto and Rulapaugh put Lindenwood up 3-2. The goal from DiGiacinto was a very nice one sneaking up behind a Dolphin defender and ripping the ball away and firing a shot past Hodgin for a very nice goal. The Dolphins would tie the game up at 3-3 after one quarter on a nice goal from Shae Hagans. Hagans would lead the Dolphins with four goals in the game.
Jacksonville would outscore the Lions 11-2 over the next two quarters and take a commanding 14-5 lead headed into the fourth as the pressure from the Dolphins resulted in some uncharacteristic Lion turnovers. Also, Cavanaugh met her match in the draw control circle in Abby Moran as the two battled it out all game.
Lindenwood would outscore Jacksonville 6-2 in the final 15 minutes but it would be too little too late as goals from Ainsley Scruggs and Allyx Berry would put the game out of reach and give the Lions their first Atlantic Sun Conference loss of the year.
Lindenwood will head back out on the road to face Liberty on Thursday, April 11 at 11 a.m. with the game streaming exclusively on ESPN+.
