Playing a second consecutive overtime game, the women’s soccer team fell to the Bulldogs 2-1, Tuesday, at Truman State University.

The Lions struggled right on both ends of the field in the first half, failing to create opportunities and find openings in a solid Bulldog defense. LU’s first shot of the game would not come until just after the 18th minute.

Freshman goalie Lauren Groathouse, getting her second start of the season, was bombarded by the offensive attack of Truman state, which tallied 16 shots in the first half. She kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard making six saves.

At the half, the game would remain scoreless.

The second half would start off with a bang, as LU sophomore Alexis Robbers scored her first goal of the season on an assist by sophomore Taylor Wade, just five minutes in. Both defenses would play strong keeping the shots on their goalies to a minimum.

It would not be until the 80th minute when the Bulldogs would finally break through on a baseline shot by sophomore Megan Whitehead. Finding the back of the net, she would send the game into overtime with the score tied at two apiece.

Just six minutes into extra time, the Lions effort would come to an end when junior Alexis Heffeman scored the game-winner for the Bulldogs.

LU now falls to 1-1-2 and will face University of Central Missouri at home this Friday.
