Akin supporters from across Missouri gathered on Election Day at the Republican Senate race watch party. The Chesterfield Double Tree Hotel conference room came complete with balloons, flowers and refreshments, along with filling up with Akin supporters and news reporters.
The crowd began the night mingling with fellow supporters, discussing the candidate they came to support. When Fox News and PBS both called incumbent Claire McCaskill the winner around 9:15 p.m., supporters were keeping their hope alive.

Peter Williams, the Field Director for St. Louis County on the Akin campaign, was busy on his laptop constantly checking updates on the Senate and national elections. He announced to the crowd, “It’s not over yet. They’ve only counted 21%,” in an effort to keep up the crowd’s hope.
At 10:15 p.m. the 10th trending topic on Twitter was Todd Akin. It was officially called at the time that Akin had lost the race.
