The Lions fought the RiverHawks, as well as a tornado warning, on the way to their tie with Northeastern State.

The battle was tight all game between the RiverHawks and the Lions.  Sophomore Megan Swanson got the start in net for the Lions while sophomore Brennan Hockett started for Northeastern.

The RiverHawks kicked off the scoring with a goal from junior Meagan Chase in the 18th minute. Lions’ leading scorer, sophomore Morgan Weller, put in a goal that was assisted by senior Olivia Callipari to tie the game at one in the 21st minute. The goal was Weller’s fifth of the season.

Northeastern outshot Lindenwood 10-4 in the half, while putting six on goal to Lindenwood’s three.

The tie was broken in the 53rd minute when sophomore Paulina Chavez scored for the RiverHawks to put them up 2-1. About 10 minutes later in the 63rd minute, the game was once again tied up by the Lions on a goal from junior forward Katie Richter. The 2-2 tie lasted all the way through the end of regulation.

In the second half, the RiverHawks again outshot the Lions 8-6, with four of their shots being on goal to the Lions’ three. The first overtime period came and went with no goals scored. The RiverHawks were able to get four shots off and put one on goal. The second overtime featured two shots on goal from the Lions, but no goals. The final score was 2-2.  

Swanson made nine saves for the Lions, Hockett made six for the RiverHawks.

The tie brings Lindenwood’s record to 5-5-2, and 2-2-1 in MIAA conference play. Next, the Lions come back home to Hunter Stadium to take on University of Nebraska-Kearney Friday Oct. 12, at 7 p.m.
