Lindenwood softball (20-21, 11-10 OVC)) dropped their final midweek game of the season to the Saint Louis Billikens (26-19, 14-9 A-10) by the score of 4-3 on Wednesday evening. The loss was the second time this season the Billikens had gotten the better of the Lions.
Avery Wapp took the loss dropping her to 8-7 on the season as she pitched the final 2.2 innings giving up two runs on three hits with one walk and a pair of strikeouts. Lucy Pratt got the start in the circle pitching the first 2.0 innings giving up a run on a hit and three walks. Molly Heidrick was the first arm out of the pen going 2.1 innings giving up one run on no hits but struggling with command and allowing five walks.
Dallis Darnell was the only Lion with multiple hits with two as as a team the Lions tallied eight knocks off three Billikens pitchers. Irelynn West, Tori Hatton and Jolie McMinn were responsible for the RBIs on the night.
Saint Louis struck first in the top of the first after leadoff hitter Karsen Jany walked, stole second and came around to score on an RBI single from Abby Mallo. Both offenses would kept quiet until the top of the fifth when the Billikens worked four walks in the inning to plate their second run giving them a 2-0 lead.
Lindenwood would respond in the bottom half of the inning as after Madisen Noll and Nicole Henson both singled, West drove in Noll with a single of her own before Henson would also score on a Hatton groundout tying the game at 2-2. McMinn would follow Hatton by ripping a single into center field, scoring West giving the Lions their first lead at 3-2.
Saint Louis would counter in the top of the sixth as Abby Ulsas would crush an RBI triple tying the game and then scoring to take a 4-3 lead on an infield single from Mallo.
The Lions would have a chance to tie it in both the bottom of the sixth and seventh as they were able to get their leadoff hitter on in both innings but failed to advance them past first base closing out the 4-3 win for the Billikens.
Lindenwood now welcomes Tennessee Tech to Lou Brock Sports Complex for their final homestand of the season with a doubleheader Saturday April 26 and the series finale on Sunday April 27. The doubleheader Saturday will be streaming exclusively on ESPN+ with first pitch of game one slated for noon.
