Lindenwood softball (24-24) fell in the opening round of double elimination to the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles (17-23) by the score of 5-2 on Wednesday evening.
Ryleigh Owens took the loss, her ninth, only lasting 1.0+ innings giving up four runs, three earned, on four hits while walking one and striking out two.
Molly Heidrick pitched the bulk of the innings for Lindenwood goin 5.0 innings out of the bullpen, giving up one run on four hits with a walk.
Irelynn West went 2/3 at the plate with two RBIs as the Lions bats were only limited to four hits and no walks in the game.
Southern Indiana struck first in the bottom of the first as Kennedy Nalley reached on an error and came around to score the opening run on an RBI single by Sydney Long.
The Screaming Eagles would tack on four more in the second as Owens tried to battle through the inning after getting drilled in the shin on a comebacker by Josie Newman to start the inning. Kate Satkoski would drive home the second run for Southern Indiana on an RBI single and then Long would plate another pair on a two-run single up the middle. Whitley Hunter would rip another RBI single as the Screaming Eagles would take a 5-0 lead into the third.
Lindenwood would try to mount a comeback in the sixth as West would belt a two-out two-run home run, her fifth of the year, to cut the lead to 5-2 but Newman would battle down in the circle for the Screaming Eagles and retire the final four Lion hitters to seal the 5-2 win.
