The Lindenwood women’s golf team wrapped up their season after conclusion of the OVC Championship Apr. 15.
After a slower start to the year in the fall, the team was proud to have a strong comeback in the spring, as well as improvement from prior seasons and promise for the future.
“We had a lot of accomplishments that we have been really trying to reach this year that we hit,” sophomore Jamie Daniels said. “We were just more together as a team, we really rooted for each other, and just performed a lot better than we have in previous seasons.”
One of those achievements for Lindenwood was winning the Nevel Meade Collegiate from Mar. 17-Mar. 18, the team’s first tournament of the spring and first ever victory since competing in Division One.
“We fought 291 as a team which is three-under par, the lowest round in the Division One era,” coach Tavia Rutherford said. “Jamie Daniel’s also shot 69, which was three-under. We had three girls shoot really good rounds and make eagles on subsequent holes too.”
The week after, the Lions traveled to Batavia, Ohio for The Julie, and took second place. The final regular season tournament was canceled, but Lindenwood continued their run into the OVC Championship, as the team finished fourth and had notable moments such as sophomore Andrea Alvarez receiving seventh place. The team is also confident in having even more successful performances for seasons to come.
“We won’t be graduating anybody, so we’ll be returning everybody we have. There’s incoming freshmen too, and I think our team will naturally get better,” Rutherford said. “We also have a handful of sophomores that’ll become juniors, and one junior who will become a senior. Having that experience to go with will help us to become a better team moving forward.”
