The Lindenwood University men’s hockey team split its two-game weekend series against Alaska Anchorage, dropping a 5-4 decision Friday before earning a 4-2 win on Senior Day Saturday at Centene Community Ice Center.
Friday’s contest featured a fast start from the Lions, who jumped out to a two-goal lead in the opening period and controlled the early pace of play.
Lindenwood generated consistent offensive pressure and finished the night with a 38-29 advantage in shots on goal. Charles Savoie and Olivier Houde each recorded multi-point performances, helping anchor the attack in a back-and-forth matchup.
Despite the strong start, Alaska Anchorage answered with timely scoring to keep the game within reach. The Seawolves capitalized on key opportunities in the second and third periods to take a late lead.
Lindenwood continued to press offensively in the final minutes and appeared to find the equalizer in the closing seconds of regulation. However, after a video review, the goal was disallowed due to goalie interference, securing the 5-4 victory for Alaska Anchorage.
The Lions returned to the ice Saturday, looking to respond and did so with a composed and determined effort on Senior Day. Jacob Fletcher opened the scoring with a short-handed goal, giving Lindenwood early momentum. The Lions built on that energy, maintaining steady pressure in the offensive zone while tightening up defensively.
Lindenwood added to its lead with balanced scoring throughout the lineup and limited Alaska Anchorage’s scoring chances with disciplined play in its own zone. When the Seawolves attempted to shift momentum, the Lions responded with key stops and timely puck management. The 4-2 win secured a series split and provided a strong finish in front of the home crowd.
With the split, Lindenwood moves to 14-14-0 on the season. After a narrow loss Friday, the Lions demonstrated resilience by closing out the weekend with a complete performance Saturday, sending their seniors off with a win.
