That title is not clickbait, nor is it just a dream for local St. Louis citizens. Back in January of 2026, Senator Nick Shroer, a Rep. from St. Charles County, proposed that the Missouri Senate replace the Kansas City Chiefs with the St. Louis Battlehawks as the official professional football team for the state.
This came off the heels of the Chiefs announcing a new deal with the Kansas state government for funding and land towards building a brand-new dome stadium right across the border. They even stated in the initial proposal that “the Battlehawks have been a beacon of professionalism and a source of pride for the state of Missouri.”
Well on May 7, the Missouri Senate Democrats would post on X that the team has officially changed. The post reads,
“Sen. Doug Beck’s amendment naming the St. Louis Battlehawks as Missouri’s official professional football team has passed with broad bipartisan support. #KaKaw”
This was met with lots of aggravation and criticism in the comments from a lot of Missouri residents as well as a big majority of Chiefs fans. A Kansas City fan wrote in the comments,
“I live in Missouri and they will never be my team. I am always Kansas City. GO CHIEFS. What a waste of time, I’m sure something more important got put on the back burner so you and
@MOSenateGOP, all you losers could deal with this.”
While this was the sentiment among most of the Kansas City loyal, St. Louis citizens were ecstatic to have their name back on top. Many of them shared the sentiment that the dome needs to be even more filled now and that St. Louis has re-established itself as a sports city. Now the Chiefs’ move has not been approved just yet by the NFL so there is a possibility that they don’t go to Kansas, but the state of Missouri isn’t waiting for that decision and is instead establishing that Kaw is indeed the Law for Missouri.
