Earth Day is celebrated by one billion people in 192 countries around the world. St. Louis was among the cities that celebrated the popular holiday, with a festival in Forest Park.

Some went to the festival to enjoy the sunny weather, and some went to let people know about their organizations.

Collen Caul, the development director of Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, shared with us why she thinks this event is important.

“It is a wonderful event you know for people to really think about the planet and the earth and recycling and keeping this earth a beautiful place for many generations to come.” said Caul.

Other organizations, such as Gateway Pet Guardians, see this event as more than a celebration of the earth, but rather, an opportunity to promote community organizations.

“I think it is a very important event. There are a lot of different organizations today, it is basically based on community awareness it offer programs, It offers types of businesses what they offer. What they do for the community,” Karie Darnell, a volunteer at Gateway Pet Guardians, said.

Planned Parenthood is another organization present at the festival. Planned Parenthood Organizer Time Williams said it is a great way for organizations to interact with people from St. Louis and the surrounding area.

Sunday marked the 26th annual St. Louis Earth Day festival, promoting ways to make our planet a better place to live. According to the website, the organization is hoping to make the next year festival bigger and better than it was this year.

Around 3,000 people went to the park to take part in the Earth Day celebration.
