The U.S. Postal Service opened a new location Monday across the street from Lindenwood University in the University Commons.

The post office replaces one at 112 S. Fifth Street. It is situated on part of 3.83 acres donated by Lindenwood University. SSM Health will acquire the property of the former post office.

Community leaders, including St. Charles Mayor Sally Faith, attended the ribbon cutting ceremony. Faith said she was thankful for all the support required to get the new facility.

“I want to thank all who made this day a reality,” Faith said. “This is more than a celebration, this is a positive step. This ribbon cutting demonstrates that the path to get to this day, while difficult, was the right path.”

The ceremony began at 11 am. About 100 St. Charles residents were in attendance. A reception followed.

Lindenwood President Michael Shonrock also was in attendance and made a few remarks.

“This is a good example of lot of people well before my time who just said this is important and we are going to make a difference in our community together,” he said.
