This year, the Department of Education created an app for smartphones to help with the complexity of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form.

The app, myStudentAid, is available on Apple stores and Google Play.

Although the app does not have all the capabilities of the online website, including the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.

“Which I think is one of the main barriers to the app,” Amber Mitchell, a college counselor and A+ Coordinator, said.

Despite the mixed reviews, the overall goal of the app is to improve participation so more students have access to federal aid.

Missouri’s deadline for federal aid is Feb. 1 and the federal deadline is June 30, 2020.
