Streaming platforms update: October edition

Lindenwood students are already halfway through the semester, which means that fall is officially here. October holds the proud title of one of the most favorite months for many students for its cultural diversity. Some of the most known and loved parts of October are Halloween, seasonal lattes, and fall movies.

Now that most of the midterms are over, it is time for students to sit back and enjoy a well-deserved movie break from studying.

Each month, streaming platforms such as Netflix, Hulu, and Max (previously known as HBO Max) remove certain shows and movies and replace them with new ones.

Here’s a list of content coming to and leaving in Oct. 2023:

Leaving Netflix:

Oct. 11:

Half & Half (Seasons 1-4) – Two estranged half-sisters in their 20s suddenly appear in each other’s lives and grow closer as they get to know more about each other.

Oct. 31:

Mile 22 – A top-secret CIA unit is responsible for leading his team in escorting a valuable intelligence asset to safety with hostile forces on their trail.

Coming to Netflix:

Oct. 12:

The Fall of the House of Usher – Two relentless siblings attempt to secure their fortune and future by building a family dynasty that begins to crumble with their heirs mysteriously dying one by one.

Oct. 13:

Spy Kids – The children of two secret agents team up to save their parents (and the world) from a powerful computer virus that was released by a game developer.

Oct. 17:

I Woke Up a Vampire (Netflix Series) – Teenage girl Carmie wakes up on her 13th birthday only to find herself suddenly possessing supernatural powers that soon turn out to be vampire powers.

Oct. 27:

Pain Hustlers (Netflix Film) – An ambitious single mother has a glimpse of hope in pharmaceutical sales as she struggles financially. Now her task is to turn a potent new painkiller into a success.

Leaving Hulu:

Oct. 11:

After (2019) – tells the story of a teenage girl Tessa Young transitioning from high school to college life that in its first months brings an interesting romance with a mysterious Hardin Scott.

Oct. 12:

The Bob’s Burgers Movie (2022) – While Bob and Linda work hard to keep their restaurant from sinking, their children accidentally get on a mission that might just rescue the family’s business.

Oct. 26:

Malignant (2021) – Madison is haunted by horrifying visions of brutal murders. When her visions become real, she has to confront a dark and dangerous presence from her past that plunges her into a world of terror.

Oct. 31:

The Devil Wears Prada (2006) – a young brave journalist becomes an assistant to a top-notch magazine editor. The story follows her struggles as she faces her new life in a high-pressure fashion world.

Coming to Hulu:

Oct. 15:

Venus And Serena (2012) – this documentary shows a glimpse of the lives and careers of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams.

Oct. 19:

I Killed My BFF (Complete Seasons 2-3) – a true-crime series that tells stories of friendships where everything went wrong.

Oct. 26:

FX’s American Horror Stories: Four-Episode Huluween Event – this series is a perfect plan for a Halloween night. Featuring four separate stories, the American Horror Story world makes sure each story is unique, frightening, and scary.

Leaving Max:

Oct. 26:

John Lewis: Good Trouble (2020) – is a CNN documentary telling the story of a civil rights leader John Lewis, highlighting his tireless work towards fighting for equality and justice for all.

Oct. 31:

13 Going on 30 (2004) – a romantic comedy that follows the life of a 13-year-old girl who magically becomes a 30-year-old woman overnight. Now, she has to deal with the challenges of adulthood that she is definitely not ready for.

The Exorcist (1973) – this movie is a classic horror story that follows the life of a young girl who is possessed by a demon.

It (2017), It: Chapter Two (2019) – these two horror movies are based on Stephen King’s novel, telling the story of a group of childhood friends that have to deal with an ancient evil clown named Pennywise.

Coming to Max:

Oct. 11:

Ghost Adventures, Season 20C (Discovery Channel) – is a reality series showing paranormal activities that are investigated by a team of professionals who explore the world’s most haunted locations to find evidence of supernatural activities.

Oct. 23:

Justice League: Warworld (2023) – a DC movie where Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and other heroes unite and fight together to lead the entire planet to freedom.

Oct. 29:

The Gilded Age, Season 2 (HBO) – continues telling a story of high society in late 19th century New York City, clashes of old and new money, and societal shifts during the transformative era.
