Lindenwood Dance Team Clinics are devoted to preparing potential new dance team members for tryouts at the end of the school year.

At Lindenwood, three dance teams participate in tryouts every May to recruit new dancers: Lion Line, Lionettes, and Golden Line. Current dance team members re-audition for the program and help guide potential new members through the tryout process.

“I did attend the dance team clinics before being a part of Lionettes. It was the perfect opportunity to meet everyone on the team along with the coaches,” Sophomore Lionette Aly Hamby said. “We learned combinations of dances and skills and that was a great way to figure out what I needed to work on to be a good fit for the team. It was a great way to connect and figure out if this was the right place for me.”

Three dance clinics will be held in Spring 2024, where the dancers who attend will have the opportunity to learn dance combos, new skills, and Lindenwood’s fight song.

The dates and times are:

  • Feb 11. from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Mar 15. From 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Apr 5. From 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

“It is important to challenge yourself from time to time and to try things that might make you a little uncomfortable,” Golden Line coach Collen Richards said. “Tryouts can be a stressful process, but the end result is much more valuable than the few minutes of worry prior to the tryout.”

The coaches and dancers encourage everyone interested to attend the clinics, there is a team for everyone, and the clinics are not for judging the dancers but for helping them have an idea of what they should improve before tryouts.

“Being part of a team of people who love and support you no matter what is truly the best part of enduring a tryout process,” Richards said “At the end of the day, you tried something that might have been new to you, and you should be proud of yourself for that.”

All the clinics will take place at Evans Commons and will cost $20 for non-Lindenwood students and $10 for Lindenwood Students. The link to sign up can be found in the teams’ Instagram biographies.

“I think it is extremely important for anyone who is looking to be a part of the dance teams to attend these clinics because it is a great way to find out if this is where you should be and how everything works,” Hamby said. “It is a great way to put yourself out there and meet potential future teammates and coaches.”
