The Center for Engaged Learning and Career Services is hosting the Internship and Career Fair to help students meet with employers from the greater St. Louis area on Thursday, Oct. 9. The Internship and Career Fair will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. in Evans Commons Court on Oct. 9.
Alyx Stewart, a strategist with Career Services, said the Internship and Career Fair hosts almost 100 employers every year for students to network and make connections with. The fair showcases many employers from multiple job types and fields for students to meet. Career Services encourages students to dress professionally and bring printed copies of their résumés.
“I think students should expect it to be whatever they make of it,” Stewart said. “If students want to come in and just talk to one employer and hand over their résumé, that’s OK. But if students want to go to every single booth and talk to every employer about their openings, the employers would love that too.”
Stewart encourages freshmen and sophomores to check out the Internship and Career Fair to be more prepared in the following years. She said, “Go talk to the employers and get some of those nerves out. Understand what the environment is like so that when you are looking for an internship or a job in your junior or senior year, you’re a little bit more comfortable.”
Cloey Long, a senior majoring in advertising, went to the Internship and Career Fair as a freshman and is looking forward to returning this year.
“My freshman year career fair definitely made me more prepared for this year’s,” Long said. “I’m really hopeful that I’ll be able to find something this year.”
Every year, Career Services also hosts a Résumé Café and Suits and Snapshots to prepare students as much as possible for the Internship and Career Fair. At Résumé Café, students can have professionals review their résumés. Students can use this feedback to edit their résumés and ensure they’re ready for the Internship and Career Fair.
Suits and Snapshots is an event where students can get free professional attire and have a headshot taken by a photographer.
Stewart said students who miss this event can check out Career Services on Handshake to see a list of employers who will be at the Internship and Career Fair and get in contact with them. The Center for Engaged Learning also holds another fair in the spring with an emphasis on education.
Career Services offers help with creating branding and career documents as well as coordinating networking and internship opportunities year-round, according to Lindenwood’s website.
