CHARLES, Mo. — Lindenwood University has named the playing surface at Harlen C. Hunter Stadium Steward Field in honor of David L. Steward, recognizing his long-standing support of education and community development.
The announcement was made during a special ceremony ahead of Lindenwood’s homecoming football game against Gardner-Webb. Steward was also recognized during the game as the honorary captain for the pregame coin toss.
Harlen C. Hunter Stadium is home to Lindenwood football, rugby, soccer and women’s lacrosse, and it is the host site for this year’s Ohio Valley Conference men’s soccer tournament.
Steward is the founder and chairman of World Wide Technology and a prominent philanthropist in the St. Louis region. Through his work and the Steward Family Foundation, he has supported initiatives focused on education, the arts, human services and animal welfare.
University officials said Steward’s partnership with Lindenwood has helped expand resources and access for students across academic disciplines, advancing the institution’s mission.
“Dave Steward embodies the values we strive to instill in our students, like integrity, leadership and service,” Lindenwood President John Porter said. “Naming the playing surface, Steward Field, is a tribute to his unwavering commitment to empowering others and his belief in the transformative power of education.”
