
Spring Break 2026 is finally here and shaping up to be one of the busiest travel seasons in years, from early to late March, with thousands of college students and families heading south in search of sunshine and vacations, with Florida and Mexico topping the list once again.
According to USA Today, Spring Break will consist of three main windows from the start to the end of March.
March 2-9: Family-focused travel
March 9-22: Peak student and party weeks
March 24-31: A quieter, less crowded atmosphere
USA Today also reported that Cancun, Riviera Maya, and Cabo San Lucas will be the top destinations in Mexico; however, experts recommend booking in advance four to six months in advance to ensure the best rates.
Mexico has been a top spring break destination; however, on March 2, 2026, the United States Mission to Mexico issued a travel message reminding U.S. citizens to stay alert after widespread cartel violence increased after a drug lord’s death.
Travelers are encouraged to avoid illegal drugs and be cautious with alcohol, staying aware of their surroundings, especially at night, while also enrolling in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). The advisory has also warned ttravellersabout scams, counterfeit medications, and strong ocean currents.
Florida has gained stricter spring break rules, according to USA Today. Cities like Miami Beach and Panama City Beach have proposed “break up with spring break” policies, including curfews, heavy police presence, security checkpoints, and much stricter alcohol enforcement aimed at creating a safer environment.
Lindenwood students begin their spring break Fri. March 6th, with classes resuming Mon. March 16th. This break allows students time to travel, catch up on sleep, or simply recharge at the halfway point of the semester. While Spring Break is meant ot be a fun and relaxing break, travel experts and government officials continue stressing to simply plan, stay aware, and make smart decisions to create a memorable trip for the right reasons.
