ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Lindenwood University hosted its annual Evans Open event on Saturday evening.
In previous years, the Evans Open has included roller skating, axe throwing, a cash grab, and some raffles for students with prizes or dining dollars. This year Lindenwood brought some new activities for students to enjoy. The cash grab booth and raffles were still part of the event but with new attractions.
Students found a photo-drawing artist; an airbrush artist for hats; a stuff-your-own plushie table; a balloon artist; a create-your-own-snow globe table; and a candy cane scavenger hunt.
“It all was a lot of fun, everybody was enjoying it, and it ended up being a really good turnout,” Carson Johnson, a sophomore who works for Student Involvement, said. “We were open from six to nine, there was a steady stream of people the whole time, and just working the event itself, it was a lot of fun to do. I also saw a lot of people with smiles on their faces, and that made me happy.”
Gavin Doyeo, a freshman, said he was very pleased with everything the Evans Open had to offer. He hopes Lindenwood can continue hosting similar events like the Evans Open.
“I was very impressed with the food bar, the partaking in the cash cube, and the creating of the stuffed animals,” Doyeo said. “I liked it all a lot, I just feel there could’ve been more seating.”
Overall, this year’s Evans Open was different compared to previous years but ended up being a fun experience according to the students. Johnson and all of the other student involvement workers are excited for more events to take place in the Spring 2025 semester.
“I thought this was a lot of fun. I went in not really knowing what to expect, and it was a great time, and I would absolutely work more events like this in the future,” Johnson said. “We’re doing a trivia night later in the semester, and we’ll have more stuff like [the Evans Open] where you can get free food. It’ll be a lot of fun, so I’m looking forward to some of those other events.”
